When it comes to work boots, protection and comfort go hand-in-hand. Georgia Boot is known for its line of safety work boots. Is the Muddog Steel Toe Work Boot a worthy addition to the line? Let take a look at some of the key features of this pair:

SPR Full-Grain Leather

The quality of work boots starts with the material. The Georgia Boot Muddog Waterproof Steel Toe Work Boot is made from SPR full-grain leather. By itself, full-grain is already the toughest material for shoemaking. Not only do they offer great strength and durability, they last longer and even look better over time. Georgia Boot has managed to improve the upper material with Barnyard Proof SPR Leather technology which is three times stronger than regular leather. According to Georgia Boot, SPR leather protects against:

  • Caustic Alkali
  • Sulfuric Acid
  • Calcium Hydroxide
  • Potassium Phosphate
  • Caustic Potash

Molded Waterproof TPU Shell

If you are planning to use this boot to wade through mud-covered terrain, you’ll be happy to know that it features a molded waterproof TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) shell. TPU is highly resistant to chemicals and abrasions which should always come in handy in rugged environments. This means that the boots hold up rather well when in contact with oil and fuel. TPU also has high impact resistance which adds a layer of durability to the pair while keeping it lightweight.

Waterproofing Properties

The aforementioned TPU shell provides the boot the ability to effectively repel water and not find itself inside. To add to that, Georgia Boot utilizes its Georgia® Waterproof system for the Muddog. It’s a proprietary waterproofing technique that guarantees that water won’t seep its way inside the boot. Plus, the system easily repels water and dry them quickly. The gusseted tongue also ensures better waterproofing quality. Despite the excellent waterproofing properties of the Muddog, it’s still a very breathable pair.

Safety Features

As you can see, this is a steel toe footwear which means that it will protect your feet from falling objects. However, this is no ordinary steel toe footwear because it has passed rigorous safety standards. It has met the ASTM F2413 protective toe classification and has I75/C75 safety ratings. This means that the boot has undergone rigorous impact testing to ensure that you will be protected from varying pounds of force.

On top of having a reliable toe protection, the Muddog is also compliant with the ASTM F2413 electrical hazard standard. This implies that the footwear is constructed with shock-resistant and non-conductive materials in the soles and heels. Muddog has nail-free construction so you don’t have to worry about electrical hazards at work.

Lastly, the pair features the Georgia Giant polyurethane outsole. If you working in an environment where you are prone to slipping, you’ll be glad to know that the outsole is slip and water resistant. Plus, they’re excellent for shock absorption.

Comfort and Support

We’re sure not many of you will wear uncomfortable footwear even if they have tons of safety features. Fortunately, the Georgia Boot Muddog Waterproof Steel Toe Work Boot has many to offer in terms of comfort and support.

  • One of the main comfort features of the shoe is the CC5 Comfort Core removable polyurethane insole which provides excellent cushioning. The Comfort Core technology is also quite unique as it stores energy as you step down your foot, and releases it back as you lift the foot. It also keeps the foot cool and dry with its Air Flow System.
  • The mesh lining is highly resistant to abrasions and can effectively wick moisture, keeping your feet dry. The lining also provides the much-needed breathability for added cool comfort.
  • There’s also a steel shank in the arches of the feet for better support and stability. Don’t worry because the shank barely adds any weight to the boot.

Is This is a Good Steel Toe Boot?

As far as waterproof safety work boots go, the Georgia Boot Muddog Waterproof Steel Toe Work Boot comes highly recommended. At this price point, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better pair with extensive safety features without compromising comfort. It’s a quality pair for shedding mud, that’s for sure!

Men's DynaForce® 8-Inch Boot Side view

Red Wing’s Men's DynaForce® 8-inch boot is designed for mechanics, electricians, carpenters, laborers and anyone else who puts in a lot of time working on hard surfaces. Its design reduces underfoot pressure by spreading the wearer’s weight and dispersing pressure evenly across the wearer’s foot. The built-in insole and SuperSole® welt design ensure long-wearing durability and top-notch stability and support.

The SuperSole® welt uses a traditional construction process. This process has been in use since the 19th century, with the upper and leather insole stitched together with a thin leather welt. The result is a boot that is comfortable on the feet while being durable and sturdy. This type of construction makes it possible to re-sole the shoes over and over for a boot that will hold up under years of use.

Electrical Resistance

Brown Men's DynaForce® 8-Inch Boot

The Men's DynaForce® 8-inch Boot is rated for electrical resistance. This rating makes it a great pick for anyone who might ever be exposed to electrical fields at work.

The electrical hazard designation means that these boots have been tested and approved by the American Society of Testing and Materials for good protection against electrocution. It means that the shoe or boot can significantly resist the conductivity of electricity as current flows through the shoe and down to the ground. Obviously, this rules out any boot with a steel shank.

EH-rated shoes or boots are designed with thick insulation at the sole and heel. This insulation inhibits the flow of electricity. It protects the wearer from as much as 600 volts of current in a dry setting. This makes the Men's DynaForce® 8-inch boot an excellent choice for electricians, maintenance men, industrial engineers, linemen and other professions.

DynaForce® Insole

Men's DynaForce® 8-Inch Boot Insole

The Horizon™ DL SuperSole® of this boot is tough and durable, with excellent protection from heat and excellent resistance to oil and gas, chemicals and abrasion. It’s also slip-resistant for a sure-footed platform that will keep you safe on the job.

Much of the comfort with any boot comes from the insole, and that’s where Red Wing shines. The DynaForce® insole blends stability, support, flexibility, and comfort.

The design has three layers: an optional shock-absorbing footbed, a supportive insole layer and a cushiony midsole that fits between the sole and insole. Together, the DynaForce® system cushions and spreads the weight of even a heavy person. This system pampers and protects your feet for hours on hard surfaces.

Pros

  • Reduces Underfoot Pressure
  • Long-wearing Durability
  • Waterproof & Oil Resistant
  • Mahogany Voyageur Leather
  • Electrical Resistance
  • Leather protector or NaturSeal™

Cons

  • Heavy Works

Additional Info: Men's DynaForce 8-Inch Boot

The DynaForce® 8” boot is easy to take care of – its tough leather upper needs a little treatment with leather protector or NatureSeal from time to time, to keep it supple and moisturized. Red Wing's unconditional comfort guarantee covers it as well.

If for any reason you’re not happy with the comfort of your boots in the first 30 days after purchase, Red Wing will gladly refund your full purchase price, no questions asked. Red Wing also backs their boots with a one-year warranty if any defects appear as a result of regular use.

Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot: Is This a Good Insulated Pair?

Some of the most common workplace injuries result from injuries to the feet. From slipping/tripping to stepping on dangerous objects, most of these accidents do not occur with the right pair of work boots like the Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot.

However, shopping for work boots is easier said than done considering the vast number of brands and models in the market. Plus, there are also numerous factors to consider when shopping.

Well, if you’re open to recommendations, there’s a pair we have reviewed below that should be worth a look: the Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot.

Reviewing the Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot

[amazon fields=”B00HWMB3D2″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large”]

[amazon fields=”B00HWMB3D2″ value=”button”]

Georgia Boot is known for its line of high-performance work boots. Is the Homeland a worthy addition to Georgia Boot’s line? Let’s take a look at some of the key features of Georgia Boot Homeland Work Boot:

[amazon box=”B00HWMB3D2″]

Does It Offer Good Waterproof Qualities?

If you are working in a wet, muddy or cold environment, keeping your feet dry is a must. You can do this best with waterproof boots. With that said, the Homeland boasts full-grain waterproof leather which gives the pair long-lasting durability and beauty. Of course, full-grain leather is also extremely resistant to water. The leather provides a certain level of breathability as well for added comfort.

The high-end leather is coupled with 900 Denier Cordura fabric which does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the boot’s ability to repel water. As if that’s not enough, the pair also features the proprietary Georgia Waterproof system which should keep your feet warm and dry.

Will It Hold Up Against Tough Conditions?

As mentioned, the full-grain leather gives the Homeland a good deal of durability and longevity. Cordura is also another tough material that adds strength and durability, making it more resistant to abrasions and tears. The boot has synthetic soles which are not as durable as leather but it still holds up under tougher environments.

Is It Comfortable and Offer Good Support?

Many have this misconception that heavy-duty work boots skimp on the comfort department. That is simply not the case with this pair from Georgia Boot. For starters, the Homeland has a TDC (Technology Driven Comfort) polyurethane footbed which provides maximum cushioning and air circulation. The ergonomic arch offers great support and comfort and relieves foot fatigue. Polyurethane is also a lightweight material, so it barely adds to the overall weight.

The oil-resistant PVC outsole is another standout feature that is not only comfortable but provides stability as well. The outsole is sewn to the upper using direct-attach construction, creating a watertight bond. Another feature that adds to the support to the arch area is the steel shank. The shank is not heavy at all and flexible. The steel shank in the outsole also protects your feet from anything that might puncture the boot.

What About Safety Features?

If you are working in cold environments or want to go hiking, you’ll be pleased to know that the Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot is also insulated. The boot features 600 grams Thinsulate ultra insulation, so your feet will not get cold. The outsole is also oil and slip resistant, significantly improving traction.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

The Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot is a bit on the heavy side, weighing 4.3 lbs per pair (size 10). However, this is quite understandable considering that this is a waterproof and insulated pair. In addition, there’s not that many safety features offered here. We would have liked more features like a steel toe protection but we imagine that it would only add more weight to the shoe. Sizing can be a bit tricky too. If your feet are slightly wide, be sure that you go for the wide model for a good, comfortable fit.

Does It Offer Good Value?

The Homeland is available at an affordable price, especially considering that you’re looking at a waterproof and insulated model. The excellent waterproof quality and full-grain leather alone are worth the price. It’s a good thing that this is more than just a waterproof boot. There are more expensive boots on the market that offer the same features. The Homeland offers enough in terms of comfort and performance to warrant the price.

To Wrap Up

The Georgia Boot Homeland Waterproof Insulated Work Boot looks to be another winner from Georgia. While we won’t recommend it for those who are looking for extensive safety features, this is a good pair to have if you’re working in wet, cold and snowy environments. Its ability to keep water and moisture out is quite impressive. Plus, the insulation has kept our feet warm and dry, even while working outside. Best of all, Homeland is a very comfortable work boot and will likely last you a long time.

To add to its durability, the boot is made from cement construction with some pretty solid gluing. The heel is also abrasion-resistant which also increases the pair’s longevity. Safety and Protection

The EVA midsole also comes into play for shock absorption and cushioning. You can be standing on these boots all day and you’ll feel less fatigued. The molded TPU toe guard protects the front of the foot and adds another layer of protection, also resistant to fuel and oil. The outsole is oil and slip-resistant which severely helps if you’re working in an area prone to oil and water slippage.

In terms of waterproofing, the Blue Collar boasts the Georgia® Waterproof System which guarantees that no amount of water will make its way inside. Add the full-grain leather upper and you’ve got a solid waterproof pair of boots.

Comfort and Support

The Blue Collar boot is designed for daily wear so it offers a good number of comfort features. The aforementioned EVA midsole provides cushioning while retaining the lightweight feel. The nylon shank in the arch area of the boot provides good support and prevents it from bending in the wrong place. The TDC (Technology Driven Comfort) insole adds another layer of comfort with superior cushioning. Lastly, the boot features a high-performance mesh lining which ventilates and cools the foot.

Value for Money

The Blue Collar Women’s Work Boot offers great value for the money, considering that it’s a waterproof footwear. Although the safety features are leaning towards the entry-level side, Georgia Boot has managed to squeeze in some comfort features which make for a solid overall package. In terms of aesthetics, this is a good-looking pair and should be a great fit for female workers.

The Verdict

The Georgia Boot Blue Collar Women’s Waterproof Work Boot is an easy recommendation for women who are looking for a lightweight, fashionable, and comfortable work footwear. Keen Steel Toe Shoes Milwaukee Review

Keen is a relatively young shoe manufacturing company based in Oregon, having only been established since 2003. Yet, during this short stint, they have grown to be one of the most respected company out there, with a lot of excellent products available in the market. Today, we will do a review of a pair of Keen steel toe shoes product, namely the Milwaukee MP.

The Keen steel toe shoes Milwaukee MP is a 6″, therefore, a mid-height steel toe boot. Regarding looks, the Milwaukee MP sports a classic Doc Marten looks with more rugged, aggressive touches.

So, how will we approach the review? Because the Milwaukee MP is a steel toe shoes with protection as its purpose, it will be one of the main criteria. Comfort and performance, of course, are also important points of discussion. Below, we will discuss each of those several aspects along with additional ones. However, let us begin by discussing the key features and technical specifications of the  Milwaukee MP Keen steel toe shoes.

Keen.Dry Technology

This technology allows the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes to be waterproof, yet still lets breathability.

Keen.Protect

The toe protection on the Milwaukee not only comes from the steel toe, but also from the outsoles itself. The outsoles will wrap over the toes for further protection.

Asymmetrical Safety Toe for Left and Right

The problem with most steel toe shoes available in the market is that the left and right steel toe protections are not ergonomically correct. In Keen steel toe shoes, the toe protections are asymmetrical and ergonomics. This feature not only allows better protection but provides a more spacious toe box and better comfort. Not to mention, the steel toe protections met all the industry standards.

Excellent Material

The upper protection of the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes is a fully waterproof, full-grain leather. The rubber outsoles are both oil and slip resistant, and the lining is tempered with Keen’s hydrophobic/hydrophilic 2-zone comfort technology.

After we have understood the key features of the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes, let us review each aspect of the Milwaukee.

Protection

As discussed, for steel toe shoe products, the most important factor we should discuss is the protection features. The steel toe protection of all Keen steel toe shoes meets the ASTM standard, which means they met the industry standard for impact and crush protection. The heels of the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes are also protected with a tough and abrasion-resistant material.

The soles also met the ASTM standards for puncture resistant, and last but not least, although the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes are fully waterproof, they are still breathable and can let the vapors out.

Our verdict? Excellent protections on all fronts.

Comfort

The Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes are extremely comfortable on the first try. The asymmetric toe boxes feature plays a big part for its comfort because they are more ergonomics compared to other steel toe boots out there. Although the toe boxes seem bulky, the bigger space means your toes will not meet the outside edges, which often causes discomfort. Yet, although it is roomy and spacious, it doesn’t feel loose.

The footbed utilize a dual-density technology so that it is soft but does not feel fragile and squishy. Again, it is designed to be ergonomic to your feet, adding further comfort. In most steel toe boots, you will need to use thick socks to compensate the comfort of fit, but you won’t need that with the Milwaukee.

The heel is relatively low with very nice midfoot support, so overall, the comfort experience of the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes is again, excellent.

Performance

The rubber sole is designed to be oil and slip resistant, so the Milwaukee can still offer great traction on hard, wet, and even oily surfaces. The locking feature of the speed laces is also great, keeping the laces from being loose. One minor downside is that the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes are relatively on the heavier side, which might be an issue for some.

Price and Value

As with most Keen steel toe shoes, the Milwaukee is not exactly the cheapest. However, considering most high-end work boots offering similar value in protection and comfort can be over $200 in the price range, the Milwaukee provides great overall value.

Conclusion and Final Verdict

On a scale of 5 stars being the best possible rating we can give, here are how we rate each aspect of the Milwaukee Keen steel toe shoes.

Comfort: 4 out of 5

Performance: 5 out of 5

Protection:: 5 out of 5

Price/Value: 4 out of 5

Durability: 5 out of 5

Final score: 4.6 out of 5

The Milwaukee Keen Steel toe shoes is an excellent pair both in terms of protection and comfort. For its price, it offers great value in durability and features comparable, or even better compared with more expensive steel toe shoes available in the market today.

In our previous article, we have reviewed one of the most prominent Irish Setter lines: the Wingshooter. Today, we will also review one of the popular Red Wing Irish Setter work boots, which is deemed the Farmington line. The Farmington is quite unique among other Red Wing Irish Shooter work boots for its steel and aluminum toe protection, which is important for some work environments, making it an ideal work boot.

Before we begin with our review, the Farmington series is available in nine different styles. Let us first do a quick overview of the nine different types.

The Different Styles of Irish Shooter Farmington

Although there are nine different types, you should not be overwhelmed with them. They can be differentiated to just four different categories:

Key Features

After we have learned about the different types of the Irish Shooter Farmington series, let us discuss the key features of the steel toe boots:

Comfort

The Farmington boots are made in the logger style, which means they have a relatively thick sole and even thicker heel. In turn, this thickness will affect your stance.

This stance difference might take some time getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, the upward stance will put less stress on your feet significantly.

As a result, the Farmington is an ideal pair of work boots for jobs that require you to stand for long periods. One thing to keep in mind is that like any other Red Wing Irish Shooter work boots, it might take at least couple of days before the Farmington will break in. It might be wise to wear the Farmington at home for several days before taking it to work to avoid discomfort and slight injuries.

Safety

For demanding jobs of which the Farmington is designed for, safety is obviously an important factor. The Farmington Red Wing Irish Setter Work Boots come with two important safety features, especially for the steel toe and aluminum toe types: the protected toe and protected shank.

With those safety features, the Farmington pair of boots will protect your feet from heavy or sharp objects from above and below. In turn, this will allow you to do your job with confidence.

Waterproofing

The leather material of the Farmington Red Wing Irish Setter work boots is naturally waterproof. Combined with the high cut, they will keep your socks dry in almost any situations.

Style

For many people, style is the reason to buy Red Wing Irish Setter work boots. The vintage, dark tan leather look of the Farmington boots indeed has its appeal, and you can wear the Farmington on the weekend as easily as on the job.

Durability

Red Wing Irish shooter work boots are known for their exceptional longevity, and the Farmington is no different. Just by holding one of the Farmington boots, you can see and judge that they are very well made and are made with well-chosen materials.

Verdict

If you are looking for working boots with quality, it is hard to find any fault with the Irish Setter Farmington. Being Red Wing Irish Setter work boots, they are indeed fairly expensive. However, given the vintage casual style, quality craftsmanship, material selections, and longevity, in our opinion, they are worth every penny.
